Xtreme Chess Finale

The Grand Finale of the Xtreme Chess Championships was played out in New York between 13-year-old Justus Williams & Stanford Student Elliott Liu few weeks ago. I got hooked on this mini series right from the beginning and was happy to see these two competitors make it to the final, the strongest player against a most resourceful young contender…

Elliot’s speciality seems to be making sacrifices in exchange for position, as we see in this game. Justus comes under extreme time pressure but remains a threat… and look out for the Checkmate that Elliot misses. That’s what can happen when playing under pressure of the clock, even if you are ahead on time.

A fine finish to a very entertaining series.

Looking forward to the second series…
