It is not often in the realms of Little War that one side utterly defeats another without sustaining any significant losses; but it happened in this game in which the Knights of the Order of the Red Lion were repulsed and destroyed as they attempted to storm the Green Dragon stronghold.
Both sides had added to their numbers thanks to recent purchases of Minifig Series 1 mystery packs that have yielded 1 x Forester, 2 x Sumo Wrestlers and 2 x Snowboarders plus we also bought 1 x Ninja. The Forester joins the Red Lions as a scout while the Ninja and Sumo wrestlers join the Green Dragons. The Snowboarders join the peasant levies on either side.
The story:
- The Red Lion catapults began bombarding the walls. It was not very effective.
- The siege ramps were upgraded to offer some protection to the levies whose job it was to push them up against the low wall of the Green Dragons’ stronghold.
- The defenders keep a low profile behind cover. Only the crossbowman, archer and catapult operator can be seen on the upper ramparts and a spearman stands on the rampart over the entrance to the grey tower.
- The foot-soldiers move forward.
- The door of the Grey Tower has been destroyed, spurring the Red Lions on to assault the stronghold.
- In the skirmish between the crossbowmen and archers, the Red Lions came off worse and failed to score any hits at all. This was to prove costly to the assault.
- The Prince rides out with the troops, and as they approach the stronghold the Green Dragon defenders man the walls.
- Man the wall!
- Spearman over the door.
- The Prince is unhorsed.
- The spearman strikes: The first casualty among the assault party.
- The siege ramps are run up to the walls and the troops begin to mount them. Meanwhile, the troops on the left reach the door of the Grey Tower, urged on by the Prince. One of the unarmed levies picks up a sword, one of the troops grabs a shield.
- The Red Lions attempt to break into the Grey Tower.
- Raise The Portcullis! The mounted knights of the Green Dragon prepare to sally forth and attack the rear of the assault party.
- The defenders leapt onto the siege ramps to take the battle to the attackers. This proved to be very effective.
- Battle is joined.
- The view from the walls.
- The Green Dragons stoutly defended the entrance to the Grey Tower.
- The knights emerged from the Black Tower and struck down two of the peasant levies. Suddenly the foot-soliders find themselves under attack from front and rear.
- A Red Lion levy attempted to defend himself, but to no avail.
- This is the moment when the assault was lost. The Green Dragons on the ramps have defeated the attackers, the Green Dragon mounted knights have attacked the rear. Suddenly, the attackers are surrounded.
- The Red Lion troops who survived the counter attack retreat with the Prince. They are thoroughly outnumbered as Green Dragon troops emerge from the Grey Tower to join the counter attack.
- The defenders of the Grey Tower now emerge to join the attack.
- The King, riding out to join the Prince, the King was unhorsed. The Red Lion party retreats towards him.
- The View From The Grey Tower.
- The mounted knights of the Green Dragons charge the retreating party.
- The King and the Prince are captured.
- Game over!
