In seeking to breach the lofty walls of our castle we have bethought us of the necessity of constructing a siege tower. We do not yet have such a multitude of Lego bricks to allow us to build a perfectly conceived engine of war as is pictured below. We do not have a battering ram on the nether storey or an upper storey for crossbowmen or a catapult. Also, our engine would appear to have been made of bricks because we presently lack the brown “log” style Lego bricks with which to realize a fully authentic tower constructed of wood hewn from a nearby forest.
Our siege tower has no “proof ‘gainst hurtling fire” – but then the defenders of the castle have not shown much evidence of hurling fire (until we can devise some workable rules that will enable them so to do). Finally, our siege tower has no wooden gang plank but must make do with a couple of railings, which at least have the advantage of being on hinges, so they can be lowered, and neatly hook over the gatehouse merlons.
Here is a picture of an English siege tower…
And here are some photos of my prototype siege tower, made with bricks from various Lego Kingdoms sets and a deluxe blue box of Lego bricks. To view the photos in all their glory, click the image, then click again on the image on the new page…
The tower is furnished with three flights of steps, and once inside, the besiegers are well protected until they emerge at the top to storm the gatehouse tower…
